FLASHBACK: On Friday, April 29, 1938, the first Rocky Mountain News statewide spelling bee was held.  Weeks before, students all over Colorado took 100-word written spelling tests.  The 82 students with the highest scores represented their public and parochial districts in an oral spelling bee held at the Denver City Auditorium.

FLASH FORWARD: GBMS is proud to announce our participation in the DPS Semantics and the Scripps Spelling Bee!

The Scripps Bee the nation's largest and longest-running educational promotion, administered on a not-for-profit basis by The E.W. Scripps Company and local spelling bee sponsors in the United States

The purpose of the competition is to help students improve their spelling, increase their vocabularies, learn concepts, and develop correct English usage that will help them all their lives.

The GBMS Semantics Club will be sponsored by 8th Grade Language Arts teacher Mr. benEzra and feature tutoring and support from Sawyer Markham, a DPS high school student and previous finalist. The club will travel to other schools for competitions on Thursday, December 12th, and on Thursday, January 29th.

For more information follow this link to the DPS Semantics home, or contact Mr. benEzra at jacob_benezra@dpsk12.org or at (720) 423-9406

Quarter 2 Enrichment Sign up!
by Michelle Saab - Sunday, 12 October 2014, 03:22 PM

It is time to sign up for your Quarter 2 Enrichments. We have a great selection of enrichments in academic subjects, arts and leadership.

ALL STUDENTS SHOULD FILL OUT THE ENRICHMENT SELECTION FORM. If you are in sports  please still sign up and we will schedule you if you have made the team.

Please take some time to read the selection catalog HERE.  Choose your top 3 selections for Monday/Wednesday as well as Tuesday/Thursday. Please make sure that you choose 3 different enrichments for each day and NOT the same enrichment 3 times.

Once you have decided, it is VERY important that you fill out this choice survey HERE.

This survey is how we can make sure that you are in a class that you enjoy. Please keep in mind- if you are in a sport and have MADE the TEAM: Football or Volleyball- you still need to choose enrichments, and may be in an academic intervention 2 days of the week.

Keep in mind that you may be assigned an academic enrichment.

Happy choosing!
